This week's blog focuses on the fascinating exhibition “To Market to Market”, produced by the prestigious Maddox Arts gallery, and featuring one of its resident artists, Julian Wild. “To Market to Market“, opened last week in Bishop’s Square, Spitalfields, in theexciting East End of London. On this occasion, Julian Wild presents stunning outdoor steel sculptures - some of of which are painted- that fit so perfectly with the appearance of the surrounding area. Accompanying these magnificent sculptures is a display of smaller pieces mostly prototypes for larger works.

The diversity of forms apparent in these sculptures, highlights the endless creativity of this young artist, as well as his constant struggle for self improvement and the creation of new challenges. The wide variety of shapes and forms offers the impression that the artist has a lot to share with the world. For those who attended the private viewing last week, it is apparent that Wild's sculptures not only amaze us, but simultaneously prove to provoke and challenge us. The weightless appearance of some of the works truly intrigues the viewer.

Moreover, the meticulous positioning of these sculptures allows the viewer to freely walk around the works, and admire them from numerous different angles. Such a process seems imperative, since the appreciation of Wild's sculptures grows and evolves with each newfound perspective.

This outdoor exhibition runs from May 2012 to May 2013 in Bishops Square, Spitafields, London E1. You can find more information about Julian Wild at the Maddox Arts Gallery website www.maddoxarts.com

This weeks blog was written by our London curator, Manuel Sanmartin.

Koo de Monde welcomes a new blogger this week! Our amazing curator from across the pond, weighs in on all things art in London! Manuel Sanmartin covers the latest and most interesting art news from Europe! We are so excited and honored to introduce him in this weeks blog! Manuel will be a regular blogger so keep an eye out for his posts!

This week we look at whats happening over the other side of the pond, hosts of the 2012 olympic games, Royalty and Earl grey tea... LONDON. The never disappointing LAZARIDES Gallery, opens the “10,000 Years from Now” exhibition, showcasing works by artist Ian Francis.

There is one word that is left in everyones mind when seeing this exhibition: IMPRESSIVE. Ian Francis’s latest work at Lazarides, leaves the viewer contemplating a new world of confusion, adventure, perversion and beauty all mixed within a collection of multilayer mixmedia paintings that owns its roots to a current human world that breaths in an “online” society.

To contemplate the extravagancy of details in Ian Francis paintings makes you feel a certain awareness. A concealed mystery wanting to be rediscovered. Its there to be found so take your time and enjoy because you will admire each painting for longer than you expect. Colour and shapes cautivates the artsist in a very particular way to create abstract scenarios. There is a sense of catastrophic charm in them but when mixing with beautifully detailed human forms, the artist reaches a next level of connection difficult to overlook.

"10,000 Years From Now" runs from the 27th of April until the 24th of May so it you find yourself in the London area Lazarides gallery has to be unmissable.

In this weeks blog, we highlight some of Koo's newest exhibitors! They are all amazing artists who use different medias to achieve greatness. We are so proud and excited to introduce Triple Edwards, Paul Robinson, and Graham Carrick!

Triple Edwards is one of the most interesting artists we have seen in a while. He finds inspiration and even materials on the streets around him. "By re-imagining these “canvases” for artwork, I challenge the perception of need vs. want around the green topic of recyclability. It is a gift to see the beauty in the everyday, to realize the potential in the unwanted, and to be able to appreciate the imperfect", says Triple Edwards.

Words

"Words" was created in a time in his life when he "questioned the power of words and what it means for a person to give their word. this piece was meant for either indoor or outdoor use and only gets better as it weathers."

"Think Tank" is a unique piece! It is an actual fish tank with unusual angled glass sides. The tank was found on the street and it was a muct have once Triple laid eyes on it. To his surprise it actually held water! This sparked many ideas and he decided to collect spheres of different shapes, sizes, colors and material. He used the angled glass planes in relation to sphere size until the piece started to become an abstract interpretation of my artistic thought processes.

Think Tank

Triple says, ", I discovered many subconscious literal and figurative interpretations for myself within this piece (i.e. the mind’s eye, a jewel of an idea, a bubbling up of thoughts, passion, blockage, fractured…etc). I believe that any individual viewer will come up with their own interpretation because this piece is as unique as each viewer’s own thought processes."

Paul Robinson makes painting of trees and landscapes and mixes them up with the decorative patterns of wallpaper. Stripes, bright blocks of colour, furnishing fabric motifs, exist in a naturalistic landscape or join together to make up that landscape. The complexity of Robinson's imagery and overlaying of pattern has been informed by the work of Robert Rauschenberg.

Olympic Village

The artist's flat elegant shapes come from looking at Japanese wood block printing and Robinson acknowledges a long graphic tradition of describing the world by painting flatly. In the process of making his paintings Robinson paints over parts of the established image or they are wiped out or washed away to create a change in focus. Silk-screen printing and painting from projection make a dense detailed surface that breaks down and unpeels in front of our eyes to reveal a decaying world.

Thorny Sunflowers

Based in London Graham Carrick produces eye popping complex art works that are striking and diverse. The subject matter and production styles create a completely fresh and unique vision. The results of this build to a body of work that is electric in both manufacture and appearance.

Cornucopia

Mercurial and eclectic, the paintings of Graham Carrick can be intense in subject, light in spirit and always ultimately intriguing. Depicted in lavish colour, the works are bold and can be hard-hitting in content . Viewers of Graham Carrick's paintings are confronted by images that seem familiar but sometimes difficult to place, like a half remembered dream. There is a hint of the journey you are to be taken on but the destination is left for the viewer to decide. Their own experiences and interoperation complete the story.

Teeth

These three unique artists add beautiful and thought provoking pieces to the Koo site, and for that we thank them!

To learn more about Triple Edwards, Paul Robinson, and Graham Carrick, visit their pages in the Designers/Atrists section!

His design work features wood and acrylic materials with an intention to rediscover the traditional Chinese culture and to show the life force of traditional plastic arts to the world.

All of the featured exhibitors in this weeks blog inspire in a variety of different ways, and for that we thank them!

If you loved what you have seen on the blog today to check out the rest of their work in the "Designers/Atrists" section.

PELLE is composed of a Korean-American designer Jean Pelle and her husband, German designer Oliver Pelle. The couple met and studied at the Yale School of Architecture. From their studio in Red Hook Brooklyn they create lighting, furniture, interiors and architecture. Ultimately, their work is about a search for a unique beauty that is within the materials and forms they find in their process.

Quadrat Series

This beautiful pendant light would add class to any room! The exhibitors were helping each other out during the set up of the booth. They formed freindships quickly. To help, they would talk about each other's pieces to the public...it was definitely something that doesn't happen frequently with artists and designers." - Georgia Cambiati, Head of Marketing

To anyone and everyone that helped with the booth or even just stopped by, we thank you!

Let us know if you saw our booth, #133, via Twitter or Facebook!
