WU CHAIR

THE WU CHAIR is one of JinR’s first and most compelling designs for GREEN T. HOUSE. It is a chair of great spirit, representing awakening and comprehension (wu). Like the bird in an ancient Chinese story, it gathers its energies as it works its way up to the Perfect Moment of release. The back, with its thick knob base and elegantly curved line, is the ultimate calligraphic brushstroke, incarnating the purest Qi. The form of the line ascends like the sound of ancient music disappearing in the wind, and breaks with such lightness that it seems endless. JinR views it like the soul, ever seeking to rise towards higher spheres. This chair is with arms: one long, and one short, symbolizing the Spirit itself. When a body passes away, it loses some weight, said to be that of the Spirit leaving the body and elevating itself.

MING CHAIR

THE “SEAT FOR T.” range includes the iconic GREEN T. Ming Chair, made of ebony stained Chinese hardwood with a startlingly high back of 2.31 meters. It is built without nails and inspired by the “harmony and perfection” of classic Ming Dynasty furniture. The often playful and whimsical nature of JinR’s design takes this classical piece and adds a New-China twist — or better — “stretch.”

GUAN MAO OFFICIAL'S HAT CHAIR

FASCINATING AND STRIKINGLY beautiful, “There Is No Chair” is a transparent, Song period Guan Mao Chair in clear acrylic. The design dates back to the Eastern Zhou period (circa 500 B.C.) and came into its beautiful maturity in the Song Dynasty where it was a symbol of high status in a society that mostly sat on mats. The Guan Mao Chair, or “Official’s Hat” chair is so called because of the resemblance of the crest rail to the hat worn by certain officials during the Song Dynasty. Perhaps the purest expression of her design philosophy, the “There Is No Chair” series reflects JinR’s love for Chinese design history, but at the same time shows her desire to move the Chinese æsthetic culture beyond stereotypes into the contemporary global arena, and into the future. The collection plays on the relationship between spirit and physicality, the almost absent chair challenges our own vision and gives thought to that which is beyond what we can simply “see.” Because we don’t see it, doesn’t mean it is not there. It’s the illusionary nature of our so-called reality,” JinR philosophizes.

QUAN CHAIR

THE "QUAN CHAIR" was the second design of the transparent "There Is No Chair" series. The "Quan," or Round-Backed Armchair, is the most splendid of classical Ming furniture, which — using clean-cut lines and fine production skill — creates the ultimate balance of simplicity and elegance. The traditional Chinese culture has a world view expressed through the "celestial" circle and the square of the "earth," or land, which is not only evident in Chinese architecture, but also integrated into furniture designs such as the "Quan." The design is a combination of this "square and circle" symbolism, the top being round (representing harmony and happiness) and the bottom being square (evoking strength, stillness, and focus). Recreated in the most contemporary of materials by JinR, she says it epitomizes her desire "to preserve and evolve the T. Spirit of China."

QUAN CHAIR RED

A VERSION OF the Quan Chair is also recreated strikingly in red acrylic, paying tribute to the immeasurable contributions of those through the ages who have contributed to the chair’s creation—from the hand of the original woodsman, vision of the scholar, even the horse that gave the hair for the brushes — and through now to the modern day materials producers and the still-existing hand skills required to shape her contemporary pieces. JinR shares, “Red is the blood of the life still flowing and the souls of those before who have brought this chair to us.”

NOW - AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE for the FIRST Time Ever in the US: SEAT FOR T. by JinR
Exclusively from Jia Moderne and GettingHomeDESIGN
Internationally renowned New-China artist, designer, restaurateur and musician, JinR has just launched her new GREEN T. HOUSE Lifestyle Collection, SEAT FOR T. It’s available for the first time in the United States exclusively at Jia Moderne at The Boston Design Center.
In 2002 JinR began creating her brand with the restaurant, GREEN T. HOUSE. Although not classically trained as a chef, JinR improvised, creating exciting new dishes, each based upon tea, an ingredient with which China and JinR in particular feels a strong connection. Her innovative approach had her named China’s first, and only female Master Chef. With a rapidly growing clientele, it became clear she needed to expand GREEN T. HOUSE’s space.
GREEN T. HOUSE revolutionized the Beijing restaurant scene with its flowing space, clean lines, and minimalist design, including furniture of JinR’s creation. As the cuisine and its presentation were further refined, GREEN T. HOUSE was lauded internationally. Time magazine called JinR “China’s first celebrity chef.” Travel + Leisure magazine referred to her as “Beijing’s Queen of Style.”
JinR had a desire to push the boundaries of the brand beyond teahouses and restaurants into the wider arena of spa and hospitality. GREEN T. HOUSE Living was born as a unique lifestyle destination that includes spaces for fine dining, art and cultural events, as well as The Bath House Residence. Within the first year of operation GREEN T. HOUSE Living, too, received international recognition in its awarding of the “coolest bathhouse in China.” Voted “Best Spa Design” in Wallpaper’s Design Awards 2010, GREEN T. HOUSE Living remains a unique travel destination for prominent local and international guests.
JinR's spaces define globally the New-China style and now we, outside of China, have a chance to indulge in this phenomenon. JinR debuts her GREEN T. HOUSE signature line of furnishings in the United States, SEAT FOR T. through Jia Moderne, LLC and at the GettingHomeDESIGN web site.
Jia Moderne, a showroom featuring the best of Asia in its offerings of contemporary fine Art, Antiques, Sculpture, and bespoke furnishings, is based in the Boston Design Center. With a keen eye towards uncovering that rare and unexpected find, whether artisan or treasure, owner Betsy Sweat has turned her years of living in Asia into a continuing quest to bring to the US a unique collection. Jia Moderne is pleased to be the country's exclusive partner for GREEN T. HOUSE.
