Lighting by Jeff Zimmerman means brilliant sculptures in glass.
He creates both hanging and table lamps.
Jeff Zimmerman's designs reinterpret and redefine centuries old ways of working with glass, opening an entirely new chapter on this familiar medium. His virtuosity as a glassblower allows him to articulate ideas by allowing -- and even encouraging -- elements of chance and what he calls "planned spontaneity" into the creative process. Pieces that have the passionate immediacy of an artist's sketch are comprised of meticulously crafted formal elements possible only at the hand of a master glassblower.
Zimmerman brings to the work a contagious sense of wonder and exploration. His ideas germinate in small objects and grow into large-scale illuminated sculptures that combine the fantastical and the organic in natural forms. The animated asymmetry of the sculptures embraces an emerging understanding of formal beauty and offers a wholly unique take on the decorative, ancient and baroque. Through R 20th Century, Jeff creates site-specific commissions for an exclusive clientele. Photography by Sherry Griffin.
